Dentures & Partials
Dentures are removable replacements for lost teeth along with surrounding tissues. Both partial and complete dentures are available. Complete dentures are necessary when all teeth are missing. Partial dentures are implemented when some original teeth are still in the mouth. Complete dentures are made following the removal of the teeth as the gum tissue begins to heal. Conventional dentures are ready to be placed within the mouth between two and three months after the point at which teeth are removed. Immediate dentures are available though they will mandate more adjustments for the proper fit as the healing process occurs.
Partial dentures are replacement teeth connected to a plastic base that matches the color of the gums. Metal framework is used to form the connection, holding the denture firmly in place within the mouth. If one or several teeth remain in the upper portion of the jaw, partial dentures are used. A fixed permanent bridge serves as a replacement for one or several teeth by positioning crowns along the teeth on the sides of the opening and attaching several faux teeth. This bridge is cemented into position.
The end result is the partial denture filling the void created by missing teeth, ultimately preventing teeth from moving into that space. Even if you have a single missing tooth, you should consider the merits of partial dentures and additional tooth replacement solutions provided by Michael D. Levy. Your dentures will prevent facial sagging, the formation of unsightly gaps between your teeth and myriad additional dental health problems.
